Reinventing Nigeria: The Plebiscitarian Option

Reinventing Nigeria is a book that seeks to find the variant of democracy that suits our country’s peculiar circumstances. Democracy is a dynamic concept, as has been demonstrated from its origins to the modern day. The Greeks, who invented democracy, were responding to the challenges of their small city-states.

They came up with direct rule of the people. Medieval Europe, in embracing democracy, modified it to suit its own challenges, coming up with the concept of democracy as a representative government— that
is, the people elected a few to represent them in government, no longer utilizing the Greek model, in which everybody was part of
the government.
